Ice Melter Project 2010

The Dundas Rotary Ice Melter project for 2010 came together on January 23rd, at 9 am. At that early hour a convoy of Rotarians (with their vehicles) turned up at the ice melter storage station to load up bags of Anchor Premium, for subsequent delivery to homes in Dundas, Ancaster, and Hamilton.

Once plied with coffee our drivers took seventy-one packages for subsequent delivery and payment collection which totaled $1,440.00. All this activity was completed in three hours. A fantastic result considering the recent mild weather with not a hint of ice and snow anywhere.

The ice melter team were (in no particular order): Ellen Boyce, John MacRae, Art Samson, Jim Nicol, Alan Smith, John Attridge and Alan Gregson.

A special note of thanks to all Rotarians in the Dundas and Dundas Valley Sunrise clubs who solicited for/or placed orders for this winter fundraiser.

As of Jan. 31st the final numbers are in: 78 bags delivered bringing $1,560.00 in sales.

Christmas Holiday Luncheon & Auction 2009

The club celebrated the Christmas holiday season on Dec. 15th. The occasion was notable for the drive-through and stop over by Santa and his/her Elves. While on hand they conducted an exciting and productive Silent Auction with funds raised going to support the Neighbour-to-Neighbour  programme, in particular its Kurdish Outreach project.

A cheque to the value of $1675 was presented by Frances to Nermin Kermin, the Kurdish Outreach worker, attired in traditional dress. In the neighbourhood of Hamilton a large Kurdish community needs first hand support and all the help going, to adjust to the new life in Canada. Many of these Kurdish families are refugees from war-torn Iraq.

Also of note was the Rotary citation given to 12 year old Mason Puppa in recognition of his $1339 contribution to PolioPlus with money designated from his 2009 birthday gift. If that doesn't deserve a "high five" I don't what does!

May you all receive many blessings in the New Year 2010.

Remembrance Day Nov. 11, 2009

Dundas observed Remembrance Day on a pleasantly cool and overcast November day. The attendance at the ceremony reflected a wide cross section of our town's population and activities  - veterans, servicemen and women, cadets, young families, schoolchildren, service clubs, churches and those townsfolk who wished to remember the fallen. The Canadian Legion with its colours and the Dundas Pipe Band proudly led the march to the Cenotaph.

At two minutes to 11 am, a Lancaster bomber flew past and over the Cenotaph.

Jim Sandilands, pastor at St. James Anglican Church gave the evocation for Remembrance Day.

The Rotary Club of Dundas, represented by president Frances Manias, president-elect Ian Donnally, laid the wreath at the Cenotaph on behalf of all Rotarians in Dundas.
